BARANGAY BIO-OS PROFILE

          Barangay Bio-os is three kilometers north of the municipality of Amlan.  This barangay is located along the highway having a land area of 579 hectares with 715 households and total population of 3,118.

Farming and fishing are two main sources of livelihood of the people of the barangay, while others are Professionals, Businessman, Overseas workers, Construction workers, laborers, Drivers and small vendors.

 

     The financial resources of the barangay government are very limitted.  It is greatly dependent on the National Government for its financial needs through the Internal Revenue Allotment ( IRA ). Other projects are counterpartly funded by the Municipality, while infrastructure projects are funded by the Provincial and Congressional Funds.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

This is a short background of a barangay which is today known as BIO-OS.

According to the story given by some folks, the name bio-os has been given to this place on account of the abundance of trees named Malabago and whose flowers are named “PIORUS”.  The barangay before was named Malabago.

It was decided with the inhabitants before to changed the barangay name to Piorus instead of Malabago because Piorus is a kind of a Beautiful Flower blooming at that time. When the Elementary School was put up some of the inhabitants could not speak clearly the word Piorus, so they at once changed the pronounciation to Bio-os.  up to the present, this place still bear this name.
