Mag-abo is one of the eight (8) barangays of Amlan, Negros Oriental. It is a coastal barangay where its inhabitants are fishermen; some are employed in the government and private sectors others also are engaged in small business operation.
Brgy. Mag-abo was created thru a Congressional Act last 1964. The first brgy. Captain was late Quirico Ibero (1964-1968), next was late Genaro Rabutazo (1968-1972), the third was late Vicente Quinit (1972-1982); the last is the dynasty of Tan family, Mr. Macario Tan from 1982-1994, then Misael G. Tan from 1994-2007. At present the youngest son was elected Barangay Captain, Mr. Macarlo Tan last October 29, 2007.
In Mag-abo also you may find the progressive business enterprises of Amlan Trading with Resto Bar owned by the Tan family and also Caltex Gasoline Station owned by Mr. Rodolfo S. Orillan.
There are also commercial beaches like Lovel Beach and other private beaches mostly owned by Filipina women married to foreigners.
It has also a memorial or serenity garden adjacent to the Municipal Cemetery of Amlan.
The Central Elementary School is also located at Mag-abo and you may find also the Mission Learning School within the vicinity of Amlan UCCP Church.
The present population of brgy. Mag-abo is 1,758 with an area of 289 hectares. The people are environmental friendly.
