“NUTRITION AND FOOD SECURITY TRAINING PROGRAM”

On Feb. 9,16, 23 and March 2, 9 2017, College of Home Economics-Nutrition and Dietetics of Silliman University Dumaguete City conducted a five-day training in Food and Nutrition Security at Dreamland People’s Hall, Amlan Negros Oriental. The participants of the said training were composed of Office Workers, Health Workers, Nutrition Workers, Brgy. Captains, Kagawad, trainers and service providers on nutrition and food safety.

Food and Nutrition Security Training Program is an Andragogy approach where activities like video presentation, games, read-and-play activities, doodles, simulations, and practical exercises in small groups build the competencies of trainees.Theory U, Six thinking Hats, PABASA SA NUTRISYON, Lets learn more about Veggies are some of the framework which will complement the adult learning principles. the main agenda is for trainees to gain new insights and concepts which can provide them opportunity to mentally and effectively apply what they learn before, during, and after a calamity. it is hoped that the trainees will directly appreciate the training’s and acquire mastery of competencies. The training content includes the conduct nutrition in emergencies; initialization of backyard gardening; lecture and demonstration on Food safety, and the preparation of emergency food reserve. The trainees are expected to conduct a return demonstartion among the TOT member, hold focus group discussions and gather feedback’s from the trainees involved in the implementation of the program.

This training is funded by Silliman University through Prof. Jane Annette L. Belarmino the office of the Vice-President for Development and the Continuing Calamity Response Program.
